Preparing to Sell
When you are trying to sell you home there are several steps you can take to improve the overall look and feel. Here a few that I’ve found useful:
- Remove Clutter! - One of the easiest problems to remedy in any home sale is decreasing the amount of STUFF in the house. You may have to store some items in a neighbor’s garage or even rent a storage unit but it will definitely be in your best interest to maximize the space in your house.
- Rearrange Furniture – This is also a very helpful tip. You’d be surprised how much larger a home can feel by simply moving existing furniture around. It may not be as comfortable as you are used to but when you are trying to sell a home you have to visually maximize the space.
- Remove Favorite Items – That crystal chandelier, for example. Or the gorgeous fountain in the backyard. And by removing it I mean completely, from the premises. It is not uncommon for a potential buyer to be in the garage and lift up a tarp (where you stored the chandelier) and saying.. “Gee thats a GREAT chandelier.. Now I’m SURE I want to buy this house!” This could lead to an uncomfortable situation, so remove any items you don’t want to be sold with the house and there won’t be any problems!.
- Make Minor Repairs – Now is the time to finish the touch up paint around the house and any other minor fixes you never quite got around to. Items like these stick out like a sore thumb to any potential buyer (wouldn’t you scrutinize every little detail too?).
- Clean! – This might not be the easiest one but it is defintely the one tip you can do yourself at no cost! If you haven’t been keeping the house up then START! There is NOTHING more unappealing to buyers than an unkempt home.

I've lived in the Old Pueblo for more than a decade and have an intimate knowledge of Tucson as well as the surrounding areas. I go hiking and traveling whenever I have a break from real estate (which isn't often enough!) and enjoy taking in an Arizona sunset while relaxing in my backyard.
